The Sadness of Frida Kahlo is an original theatre production inspired by the life and cultural legacy of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, and the first stage work developed under YoungProduce’s female-led narrative series.

Rather than retelling Kahlo’s biography, the production uses her body, artistic practice, intimate relationships and political beliefs as points of departure to explore the experiences of women living in contemporary cities. Frida becomes less a historical figure than a mirror through which questions of physical vulnerability, desire, creativity and self-reconstruction can be reconsidered.

The production played three performances at Shanghai YOUNG Theatre on 2–3 January 2026, reaching an overall occupancy rate of approximately 85% and generating more than 50,000 media impressions across platforms.

作品没有试图重述弗里达的一生，而是从她的身体、创作、爱情与信仰出发，将一个早已成为文化符号的女性重新连接到当代都市女性的现实经验。那些关于身体的不完整、亲密关系的波动、对创作的执着以及不断重新建立自我的过程，在舞台上成为过去与当下彼此映照的入口。
